Jio Phone to Support WhatsApp, Rollout Expected to be Completed by 20th September - Techsbee.com

The wait is over and WhatsApp is finally coming to the ‘Jio’phones. The specially designed WhatsApp messenger can be downloaded from the ‘Jiostore’ from September 20th as confirmed by the WhatsApp officials on Monday. Earlier it was planned to be supported on Jio phone from August 15th and the plan had also been revealed by RIL ( Reliance Industries Ltd) at their 41st annual general meeting back in July.

“Millions of people across India can now use WhatsApp private messaging on the best-in-class JioPhone across India,” said Chris Daniels, Vice President, WhatsApp during the announcement event.

When it comes to the app, Just like Android and iOS version the Jio version would also be end-to-end encrypted. The app is also claimed to support voice messages and Group chats. However direct audio and video calls aren’t supported on the Jio version of WhatsApp and also the new payment feature aren’t available, the feature has which was recently introduced in iOS and Android versions.

Jio users can Install WhatsApp from Jiostore, follow the instruction. Go store and tap search WhatsApp in the app and click the install button. After completing the above-mentioned steps you need to verify the mobile number through OTP for start or use WhatsApp in your Jiophone.

“By designing this new app for KaiOS, we hope to expand the ability for people to communicate with anyone in India and around the world by offering the best messaging experience possible to Jio Phone users.” Mr. Chris Daniels added to his words.

It’s clear that both WhatsApp and RIL are all set to expand its reach in the Indian market. WhatsApp currently has almost 200 million active users from India and Jio phone is also leading the feature phone market in India. “We will be providing WhatsApp, the most used chat application in the world, on all Jio Phones starting today,” said Akash Ambani, Director, Reliance Jio Infocomm, in the statement. “Jio wants to thank the Facebook and WhatsApp team for making this happen.”

Customised Facebook and YouTube were launched earlier this year and it was clear that WhatsApp is their next target and finally that too has hit the floors. With Jiophone 2 ready to be shipped here are some basic features of both ‘Jio’ phones.
