Design and Display

Talk about Poco F1 design, it’s a new age smartphone feature glass rear or metal unibody, Poco has opted for a plastic polycarbonate body. This device available in three color variants – Rosso Red, Steel Blue, and Graphite Black. Xiaomi designed display with iPhone x-like Notch on the top like similar smartphones launched recently. The bottom chin is thick and houses a tiny white notification LED (similar Mi A1 and A2), which also lights up when a charger cable is plugged in.

Poco F1 Review

POCO F1’s display comes with 6.18-inch FHD+ display which has 500nits brightness capacity, 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass protection. I tested the glass protection, the screen didn’t get any scratches after the scratch test. Within the display settings, I was able to select the color and contrast of the display. Xiaomi has utilized it well by including an earpiece, selfie camera, IR emitter and receiver for facial recognition.

The fingerprint scanner vertically designed under dual rear cameras in the top of the middle. Little much different in the camera designs comparing previous Xiaomi devices. This makes it easier for those of us with small hands to easily unlock the phone without straining our stubby fingers. Compare to another Note series, POCO F1 fingerprint scanner is more than fast.

Poco F1 Design

Xiaomi Poco F1 Review: Design

The Poco F1 is neither light (187grams) nor slim (8.9mm) and apart from that, there’s a SIM tray on the left. The dray comes to a hybrid dual-SIM tray that lets you expand storage if you wish to. The volume rocker and power on/off key on the right side, speaker and USB Type-C port at the bottom and a 3.5 mm audio jack on top.

Camera

Poco F1 has come with 12MP+5MP dual rear cameras at the back side of the phone. The 12MP primary rear camera offered the Sony IMX363 sensor with 1.4-micron pixel, dual-pixel autofocus features. Additionally, the secondary sensor on the rear is a Samsung made 5MP depth sensor. There is and dual LED flash too placed in the backside.
Xiaomi added artificial intelligence to the F1’s camera app to set it apart from the other popular brands. The camera app is the same as all other MIUI running phones. Other features of the applications are Live Focus, Panoramas, AR Emojis, Beuty, and HDR options.

Poco F1 Camera

The Poco offered the best camera quality in daylight and night view options in this price range. In my view, simply it’s superb. In daylight conditions, the images Poco F1 camera captures have good dynamic range, appear crisp and sharp on screen. The Portrait mode sometimes not better than Redmi Note 5 Pro, Mi A1, Mi A2 in my view. Within the photo mode, is the AI setting that helps camera with scene detection and it turned on HDR when pointed towards the light.

The night camera capture not bad, but little much improvement needs in the camera app. I believe Xiaomi improve the camera features in the next system or camera updates. In front, a 20-megapixel selfie camera with AI Beautify technology and Face Unlock feature. The smartphone also features an IR lens and infrared lighting in the display notch. Xiaomi claims the device can unlock fast (0.4 seconds) even in the dark.

The following camera samples are taken by different lighting conditions and credit goes to Kiran R L the TechsBee representative.

Software and Performance

Xiaomi Poco F1 ships with MIUI 9.6 out of the box based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The company promised users can upgrade to Android P soon and also MIUI 10. This smartphone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC processor coupled with 8GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. The internal storage expandable up to 256GB via microSD card with a dedicated slot.

Xiaomi Poco F1 Review: With Box

The Poco F1 available in three storage variants – 64GB/128GB/256GB onboard storage and 6GB/8GB RAM options. In terms of connectivity options include 4G+, VoLTE, Bluetooth v5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, USB Type-C, 3.5mm headphone jack. The gaming options are superb, I played PUBG, Call of Duty, Brother in Arms and Asphalt 8 and 9 in my device.

When I try to play Asphalt on my phone it’s not supporting. I don’t know why maybe it does not support Poco devices. Anyway, I’m waiting for the next system updates. In my view, little much improvements need in software and performance. I loved Poco cooling system called ‘LiquidCool’ for this phone, using a copper chamber with vapor in it to dissipate heat. This function help to improve battery performance and decrease heating issues in overuse.

Battery

The Poco F1 comes with a massive 4000mAh battery which is better than its competitor OnePlus 6, Honor Play (Compare), and Asus Zenfone 5Z. Xiaomi includes 18W charging support and Quick Charge 3.0. When we put it to test full charge take within 1 hour 20 minutes. After one day my use Poco F1 device has a good battery life in normal and heavy use.

Xiaomi Poco F1 Price and Availability:

The Poco F1 price in India starts at Rs. 20,999 for the 6GB RAM/ 64GB onboard storage, Rs. 23,999 for the 6GB RAM/128GB onboard storage, and 8GB RAM/ 256GB inbuilt storage model costs Rs. 28,999. The Armoured Edition of the Poco F1 priced at Rs. 29,999 and this is the highest variant. The device currently available only on Flipkart, mi.com and Mi offline stores.

During the time of online sale, many popular companies offered launch offers to Poco F1. The telecom giant Reliance Jio offered 6TB of data with additional benefits up to Rs. 8,000, HDFC Bank announced buyers get Rs. 1000 instant cash back in the first sale through company credit and debit cards. And also a soft-case will be bundled in the box.

Verdict

In my conclusion, POCO F1 overall performance is too good. I love gaming play mode. But when trying to watch Netflix, Amazon Prime videos it’s not supported, and also High HD video definition not working. Maybe Xiaomi fixes all the camera, gaming problems, Video Streaming issues in next phone updates. Anyway, I recommend this flagship device to our users. This is the best choice under this price range.
